Kajeet Partners with CareSpeak Communications to Support Heart Transplant Pilot Program at Children's Hospital of New York Presbyterian
The safest cell phone for kids™ teams up with a leading mobile health company to provide critical text message reminders to young heart transplant patients.
Kajeet® , the safest cell phone for kids™ and the only cell phone service provider in the U.S. to have won four parenting awards for excellence and safety, is pleased to announce its collaboration with CareSpeak Communications, a leader in mobile technology solutions for patients, caregivers and health care professionals, to support the Pediatric Health Transplant Program from the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York Presbyterian. A six-month pilot, the program delivers and manages critical, time-sensitive text message medication reminders and confirmations via kajeet mobile phones to children who are heart transplant recipients. Delivery and confirmation of these timed reminders are essential for the health of each young patient in the program, as the success of their transplant is closely correlated to adhering to a strict medication protocol.
“Kajeet is proud to contribute to the work being done by the medical professionals who designed and manage this innovative program for kids with critical health needs. We founded kajeet specifically to provide a safe mobile solution for children, and we're humbled to play a part in leveraging our technology to assist those heroes who are helping these young transplant patients,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and founder of kajeet.
Participants in the Pediatric Health Transplant Program were each issued a kajeet cell phone, widely recognized for affordable, text-friendly plans and unlimited parental controls. Using CareSpeak's proprietary mHealth platform, timely text reminders are sent through these phones to ensure medications are taken as prescribed and on schedule. Participants use their kajeet phones to send text messages back confirming compliance, which is tracked by the clinicians via a web-based dashboard. Patients who meet compliance goals set by their clinician are rewarded with additional, free text messaging service that can then be used to communicate with friends and family. Those who do not accomplish certain tasks, such as show up for their office and laboratory visits, lose parts of their usage privileges. The kajeet phones are also enabled with patented kajeet parental controls.
“Everyone knows how dependent kids are on text messaging as a way to communicate to their friends and as parents, we also know that it's a very effective tool to motivate kids to perform certain tasks if they are in danger of losing their texting privileges. Based on those insights, we put together this program. By combining our complimentary core competencies, CareSpeak and kajeet are able to play an important role in increasing the effectiveness of this cutting-edge medical program for children,” said Serge Loncar, founder and CEO of CareSpeak Communications.
At the conclusion of the Pediatric Health Transplant pilot, additional programs that leverage the kajeet – CareSpeak collaboration are planned.
Kajeet makes communicating with a cell phone safe for kids and reassuring for parents because all kajeet phones come equipped with a variety of free, easy-to-use parental controls that can be set to block or limit calls, text messages, and manage picture messaging and Mobile Web use. CareSpeak Communications makes medication compliance easy with intuitive, scalable, affordable and accessible wireless communications technologies for institutional and consumer markets.
