New portable Wi-Fi Hotspot offers students school-managed off-campus connectivity, compatible with any mobile device

MCLEAN, VA — Kajeet, the only wireless service provider dedicated to kids and education, announced today at the Wireless EdTech 2013 Conference its new Kajeet SmartSpot 4G LTE. School districts can now offer customized off-campus connectivity to students with the Kajeet SmartSpot, a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling every child to have access to essential academic and education resources on the Internet anytime, anywhere. Each Kajeet SmartSpot 4G LTE — compatible with all devices students use today — extends its national Sprint® network coverage, provides faster data speeds and supports up to 10 student devices.

“To succeed in today’s world, students need to access the vast educational facility we call the Internet,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and founder of Kajeet. “We developed the Kajeet SmartSpot so school districts can affordably close the Digital Divide by supplying managed online access to electronic textbooks, research materials, interactive content and digital curriculum for students in K-12 who do not have broadband once they leave school. Kajeet makes staying connected off-campus safe and secure for students and affordable for schools.”

The Kajeet SmartSpot 4G LTE works with any Wi-Fi capable device and is 100 percent compliant with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).  The Kajeet SmartSpot can be customized and managed in real time by schools with the Kajeet Sentinel® platform, giving teachers or administrators the ability to set access hours and filter out non-educational content.  With the Kajeet SmartSpot 4G LTE, there is zero waste and schools avoid overages and hidden costs; when not in use, a SmartSpot incurs no costs.  Many schools using the Kajeet SmartSpot have adopted a ‘library checkout model,’ making it easy for students to borrow a device and return it when they are done using it away from campus.  Other districts have deployed the Kajeet SmartSpot with their 1:1 mobile technology initiatives, ensuring that students who are given tablets or laptops to take home also have school-safe Internet available, wherever they are.

“The most exciting part of launching the Kajeet SmartSpot 4G LTE is that now even more schools will be able to provide off-campus connectivity to their students,” said Michael Flood, vice president of Education Markets at Kajeet. “The 4G LTE coverage on Sprint’s network continues to expand into new markets on a regular basis. Schools and students using the Kajeet SmartSpot 4G LTE will be able to tap into this extended coverage — and at faster speeds than ever before.”
