Pima County Public Library: Connectivity for Patrons

Kajeet Customer Success Story

Pima County Public Library (PCPL) is a library system serving patrons in 27 library locations across southern Arizona.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the PCPL team noticed that many individuals were sitting outside in the parking lots just to attempt to connect to the library WiFi. Seeing the connectivity challenges facing its community, PCPL decided to find a solution to help alleviate this digital divide.

pima-county-logoPCPL partnered with Kajeet to begin a WiFi hotspot lending program, which allows their 400 Kajeet SmartSpot® devices to be checked out to patrons for educational and career development purposes. PCPL appreciated that these hotspots are available on any of the major wireless networks and come with CIPA-compliant filtering at the device level.

Pima County Public Library Program Highlights

A highlight of the program was in 2021, when PCPL worked with neighboring Altar Valley School District to deliver over 100 of the library’s devices to students to use for the upcoming school year.

In 2022, PCPL outfitted four of their library vans with Kajeet SmartBus WiFi services. The library system has used these in a variety of settings, from community programs to deposit collection deliveries, in which the vans are parked in strategic locations such as parks and community centers to allow visitors to connect to free WiFi.

Kajeet has excellent customer service, and the right product to meet the needs of a public library. Their dashboard and customer training resources make it very easy to manage the devices. We will continue to do business with Kajeet as we address community connectivity issues.”
